| I'm sure no matter what the subject matter if I talked to a Z32 engineer about anything ZR, I would feel extremely dumb. 16" wheel is proven, yes. But I am NOT sure it is critical to the suspension design, and changing it out for a larger diameter (17" or 18") wheel with weight within a pound or two and a tire mounted to it utilzing the same diamter would change things (from a suspension design standpoint much if at all). Others, who's opions I respect, seem to think so, so I will work with that but I am not 100% convinced - frankly, I'm skeptical. I would wager to guess the Z32 uses 16" wheels because it was designed and sold in the late 80's and not much was changed on it throughout its life span. I think the choice of 16" diameter wheels was more a choice of econmics at the time, and would go even further as to bet if you were to ask a Z32 engineer which is superior from a performance perspective 16" vs larger (17" or 18") on the chassis he helped to design, you might be suprised at the results. But once again I'm not a Z 32 engineer, just some shmoe who wastes too much time on tt.net like too many others. I don't really care what you do, just sharing what I think is best. My setup for those that care: For street 21 lbs 18" wheels (BBS) 8.5 front 9.5 rear with 255/35-18F and 285/30-18R (maintains stock diameter for accurate speedo) New FalkenFK451 tires are $150 each on ebay (bought in pairs) either size. Some understeer with staggered setup, good for predictable safe street driving. For track 18 lbs 18" wheels (Wedsport - once they are in stock at tirerack) 9.0" wide all around. 265/35-18 Dunlop Super Sport Race tires 130 each @ tirerack. same size tire/wheel helps make steering more neutral / minimzes understeer. 18" wheels don't have to be heavy (yes they may be 1 or 2 lbs more than a same model QUALITY wheel of smaller size), and 18" tires are NOT necessarily more expensive anymore and, in fact, am finding they are cheaper. Please find me a 16" or 17" CompR tire in 265 or more width that is < 130 dollars. Times are changing.
